# Check hash availability

> POST /qr/hash/check/

Checks whether a custom short-URL slug is free before you commit to it.

```
POST   https://api.scanova.io/qr/hash/check/
Authorization: 401f7ac837da42b97f613d789819ff93537bee6a
```

Requires the `CUSTOM_URL_HASH` quota.

<ParamField body="url_hash" type="string" required>
  The candidate slug: 3–50 characters, `a`–`z`, `A`–`Z`, `0`–`9`, `_`, and `-`.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="domain" type="integer">
  Custom-domain primary key to check against. Omit for the default short domain.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="valid" type="boolean">
  Read-only — the availability verdict in the response.
</ParamField>

<RequestExample>
  ```bash cURL theme={null}
  curl -X POST "https://api.scanova.io/qr/hash/check/" \
    -H "Authorization: 401f7ac837da42b97f613d789819ff93537bee6a" \
    -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
    -d '{
        "url_hash": "summer-sale",
        "domain": 42
    }'
  ```
</RequestExample>

<ResponseExample>
  ```json 400 Bad Request theme={null}
  {
    "url_hash": ["Unavailable. Try again"]
  }
  ```
</ResponseExample>

<Warning>
  Availability is **domain-scoped** — the same slug can be free on one custom domain and taken on another, so always send the `domain` you intend to publish on. A successful check is not a reservation: the slug is only yours once a QR Code claims it.
</Warning>
