# Free plan for education

> Teachers, students, and educational institutions can use Scanova free by crediting it on their site: who qualifies, and the two steps needed to apply.

Scanova gives teachers, students, and educational institutions a free plan in exchange for a credit link. You add the credit to your site, tell Scanova where it is, and the plan is activated.

## Who qualifies

Teachers, students, and educational institutions. If you're unsure whether your case counts, ask [support@scanova.io](mailto:support@scanova.io) before setting anything up.

## Step 1: credit Scanova on your site

Add a link to Scanova in your site's credits or resources section, with **Scanova** as the anchor text.

If you'd rather paste it in directly, use this:

<Note>
  Use the URL exactly as written. The `utm_` parameters on the end are how Scanova identifies the credit as coming from the education program, and a link without them may not be recognized.

## Step 2: tell Scanova where it is

Email [support@scanova.io](mailto:support@scanova.io) with two things:

* The email address your Scanova account is registered under
* The URL of the page where the credit appears

The credit needs to be live before you send this — support checks the page.

## Activation

Once the credit is verified, your free plan is activated. If you haven't heard back, reply on the same email thread rather than applying again.

## Why the credit is asked for

The credit is what funds the arrangement. It's how Scanova reaches new users through the education program, which is what makes offering the free plan to educators and students sustainable.
