# Is Scanova free?

> Scanova is a paid product with a 14-day free trial, plus a separate free generator on the website that makes Static QR Codes without an account at all.

Scanova is a paid product, but there are two ways to use it without paying: a **14-day free trial** of the full dashboard, and a **free generator on the website** that makes Static QR Codes with no account at all.

Which one you want depends on whether you need to change or track the QR Code after you've made it.

## The 14-day free trial

Signing up gives you 14 days on the full dashboard, including up to **3 Dynamic QR Codes**.

A Dynamic QR Code is the reason to take the trial. It resolves through Scanova, which means you can:

* Change where it points after it's printed, without reprinting anything
* See every scan in [Analytics](/analytics/dashboard) — when, where, and on what device
* Apply [advanced settings](/qr-codes/manage/password-protection) such as password protection, scheduling, and conditional redirection

Static QR Codes aren't restricted during the trial, so you can make those too.

When the 14 days are up, your Dynamic QR Codes are deactivated but kept — see [When your trial or subscription ends](/billing/trial-and-expiry) for exactly what happens and how to bring them back.

## The free generator on scanova.io

If all you need is a QR Code that points somewhere fixed, you don't need an account. The generator on [scanova.io](https://scanova.io) creates Static QR Codes for free:

* No sign-up, and no time limit
* Downloads as a PNG
* Never expires, with no cap on scans
* Plain black and white, with no logo, colors, or frames
* The content is fixed at creation, so it can't be edited or tracked afterwards

That last point is the trade-off. A Static QR Code stores its content inside the code itself, so nothing about it can change once it's printed. If the destination might ever move, or you want to know how many people scanned it, you need a Dynamic QR Code — see [Website URL QR Code](/qr-codes/create/website-url) for how the two differ in practice.

  Both kinds of QR Code are permanent in the sense that matters for printing: a Static QR Code works forever, and a Dynamic QR Code keeps working for as long as the subscription behind it is active.
