# AI Design

> Generate a QR Code design from a description, letting AI produce an on-brand pattern and colorway that you can refine before you publish or download it.

**AI Design** generates a full background image for a QR Code's pattern from a plain-text description, instead of picking colors and shapes by hand. Open it from the **Design** editor's top bar — switch from **Custom Design** to **AI Design**.

<Warning>
  Switching to AI Design **clears your current custom design** — a confirmation dialog warns you before it discards anything you've built on the Custom Design tab.
</Warning>

## Generating a design

<Steps>
  <Step title="Describe the background you want">
    Type a description into the **Prompt** field (up to 200 characters), or click one of the six example chips — **Pizza with basil, surreal lighting**, **Clothing store in a mall**, **Starry Night city scene**, **Greek statue, ink art**, **Snowy house, pine trees**, or **Ocean ripples, brushstroke** — to use it as-is.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Optionally add a Negative Prompt">
    Use the optional **Negative Prompt** field to describe what to avoid in the generated image.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate">
    Click **Generate**. Two variations are produced in parallel, each shown as its own **Generation Result** card with a per-card status.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The disclaimer under the Generate button — "AI can make mistakes. Check the design before using it." — applies here the same way it does for [AI Studio](/ai-studio/overview): review a successful result for readability and contrast before publishing.
